The Four Tarot Suits: Wands, Cups, Swords, Pentacles
The 56 Minor Arcana are divided into four suits: Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles. They correspond to the four classical Western elements: Fire, Water, Air and Earth. Each suit carries its own themes and energy.
Wands = Fire element. Fire stands for action, passion, desire and courage. Linked to ambition, new projects and drive. Wands signal opportunities to act, yet also warn against recklessness.
Cups = Water element. Water represents emotion, intuition and human connections. It covers romance, friendship, inner feelings and empathy. Cup cards reflect joy in relationships as well as sorrow and regret.
Swords = Air element. Air relates to thought, logic, communication and conflict. It deals with decision-making, arguments, truth and hurt. Swords bring clear-headed judgement, but also tension and verbal harm.
Pentacles = Earth element. Earth stands for material reality: money, career, wealth, physical health and tangible results. It touches on income, resources and stability, alongside material worries.
Quick summary: Wands for action, Cups for feelings, Swords for mental conflict, Pentacles for material life. Together they paint a complete picture of human experience.
